There are many individual metals causing varying degrees of illness based on
acute and chronic exposures. If a specific diagnosis cannot be made, a general
approach to metal toxicity may be beneficial. The list of heavy metals includes
mercury, lead, aluminum, antimony, arsenic, bismuth, cadmium, chromium, cobalt,
copper, silver, zinc and tin. Mercury poisoning is dealt with separately as
"Mercury Poisoning (Amalgam Illness)".
Symptoms of heavy metal toxicity include mental confusion, pain in muscles
and joints, headaches, short-term memory loss, gastrointestinal upsets, food
intolerances/allergies, acne, vision problems, chronic fatigue, and others. The
symptoms are so vague that it is difficult to diagnose based on symptoms alone.
Testing involves the use of chelating drugs along with a 24-hour urine
collection to determine levels of heavy metals. From here, treatment is based on
the individual and will usually involve the use of metal chelating drugs or
intravenous EDTA chelation. For our patients, intravenous vitamin C and
replacement mineral infusions are also recommended to support the body through
the metal removal process. Once laboratory tests indicate that the heavy metals
are within normal ranges, treatment is considered complete. Often many - if not all -
symptoms previously experienced will have resolved, though some may linger,
indicating residual damage to organ systems. Therapies can then be targeted to
these systems and any specific problems remaining.
Plastics cause endocrine (hormone) disrupting chemicals (EDCs) to enter the
body which interfere with the normal functioning of the hormone system of both
people and wildlife. They can subsequently produce a wide range of adverse
effects including heart palpitations, insomnia, night sweats, and hormonal
imbalances, reproductive, developmental and behavioral problems.
Excessive fatigue and other unexplained flu-like symptoms can be triggered by
toxic chemicals in our environment. People who are prone to headaches may find
the root of their headaches is exposure to toxic chemicals. Unusual skin
rashes, swollen glands, digestive problems, nausea, and diarrhea may be related
to toxic poisoning. The incidence of illness with symptoms of muscle and joint
pain such as chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia is up. Several chemicals
contribute to the development of heart disease. Irritability, aggression,
learning disabilities, and behavior disorders occur at alarming rates and may be
related to chemical exposure during pregnancy, as well as after birth. Impaired
memory and concentration, auditory and visual perception, in some cases, is
linked to excessive exposure to toxic chemicals. Onset of allergies, asthma,
food, chemical, and noise intolerance can be traced to acute or chronic exposure
to poisons.
The inability of the body to break down food particles can lead to toxic
build up from the digestive system.
Do you suffer from acne, oily skin, large blackheads, pink cheeks, enlarged
pores, rosacea, irritable bowel, spots on the skin with loss of pigmentation
(fungus), attention deficit disorder, premature aging or candida?
Candida is a yeast infection within the body’s intestines that, over time,
causes enough inflammation that the intestinal wall thins so much that an actual
hole develops. The contents leak into the body allowing candida to enter
the bloodstream. Candida secretes about 100 toxins into the body and can causes
many health and skin problems. These toxins deplete the body of magnesium and
potassium which reduces cell energy. These two minerals are absolutely essential
for tissue strength and integrity.
How do you get yeast overgrowth in the body? Candida can grow from the
prolonged use of antibiotics, medicines, steroids, birth control pills and
excessive sugar intake. More than half of North Americans suffer from candida,
unknowingly. Diets consisting of foods high in refined carbohydrates and/or
regular consumption of alcoholic beverages or soft drinks containing sugar,
provide a rich food source for the fast proliferation of Candida. Sometimes what
looks like acne, is really a yeast infection in the skin.
Not all skin problems are caused by candida, but they are caused by a
buildup of toxins and/or hormonal imbalances which can be altered by toxins. Candida is just a source of toxins. American’s poor diets high in refined
carbohydrates, sugar and saturated fat overloads our bodies and impairs its
ability to digest food properly. This inability to digest properly allows food
to decompose in our bodies releasing toxins and creating environments for
bacteria to proliferate. Environmental toxins from smoking, pollution, plastics,
pesticides and other chemicals invade our body on a daily basis. Harmful
bacteria can also secrete toxins into our bodies. An immune system weakened from
toxic overload cannot efficiently remove invaders thus allowing them to live in
our bodies producing toxins. Over time toxins from all these sources can build
up in our bodies causing chaos and health problems. What do we do? We are a
national of pill poppers. We take a pill for whatever ails us to treat the
symptoms instead of dealing with the root of the problem. Let’s face it….skin
conditions are a symptom of an internal problem. Lifestyle modification,
cleansing our bodies of the waste we retain, in addition to proper skin care is
what provides results. If you do nothing, over time you will find yourself on
multiple medications to treat your growing symptoms. This will add a financial
burden on your budget as the price of medications goes up and insurance coverage
goes down.
One of the most challenging difficulties we face is that of detoxification of
neurotoxins from infection, chemicals and heavy metals that often reside deep in
fatty tissue and organs. Our detoxification methods are safe and efficient
through targeted supplementation and intravenous therapy supporting membrane phospholipids, methylation and sulfation which are crucial for positive
patient outcomes. Our approach to detoxification is from a cell membrane
perspective with respect to essential fatty acid metabolism establishing
phospholipid stability. Young, healthy cells are mainly composed of a very
fluid and flexible fatty acid membrane. As we age, cholesterol starts to
replace these fatty acids making the cellular membranes hardened and inflexible.
Cholesterol allows toxins to accumulate in the cells and nutrients are less
readily absorbed.
Can we reverse this state of toxification and return our cells to a healthy
state? Proper detoxification and supplementation of these compounds can return
our cells to a healthy, less toxic state. Phosphatidylcholine is a phospholipid
which is a major constituent of cell membranes. It is essential for proper liver
function due to its key role in exporting fat from the liver. This compound is a
remarkable tool to unload the body’s burden of toxins. In the absence of
adequate phosphatidycholine, fats become trapped in the liver, where they block
metabolism. The more toxins you accumulate through diet and the environment, the
less you have as it is used up more rapidly eventually leading to a deficiency.
Toxins have an affinity for lipids and can easily redistribute toxins and
diseased toxic lipids into the new growth of cells. In a healthy state with
adequate antioxidants of glutathione and ascorbic acid to bind the toxins
before they take up new residence, the body can keep the bad guys under control.
However, if defenses are weak, toxins can continually be redistributed and
eventually hide in the central nervous system and bone where the regeneration
process is at a slower pace. The goal of detoxification is to 1)
encourage regrowth with a renewed effort at the correct balancing of the
essential nutrients, with the IV exchange of lipids to fuel regeneration and the
eventual detoxification process; and 2) at the correct time, the
inclusion of the toxin removal specialists, ascorbic acid, chlorella (algae)
and glutathione.
Ascorbic acid, commonly known as vitamin C, is an organic acid with
antioxidant properties. It boosts the levels of glutathione which is also a
powerful antioxidant that destroys toxic compounds and chemicals. One molecule
of glutathione binds with one molecule of a toxin and then is released from the
body which is why levels can be depleted quickly depending on your state of
toxicity. If you are acquiring toxins faster than they can be removed, you
then enter a cycle of demand outweighing supply and the level of toxins start to
build in the body.
Detoxification of neurotoxins requires that the cell membrane is nourished
with balanced essential fatty acids and supportive phospholipids.
Phosphatidylcholine is the most abundant phospholipid of the cell membrane and
protects the liver against toxicity and infection. The liver plays a pivotal
role in detoxification but due to its fatty acid content and the lipid soluble
characteristics of neurotoxins, lipid based interventions are required to impact
toxic burdens. Once the liver has been damaged it can no longer metabolize fats
normally. Pools of lipids are then deposited within hepatocytes (main functional
cells of the liver) throughout the liver. This then inhibits the process of
breaking down fatty acid fats to be used to store and release energy for work
within the body is suppressed, thereby impairing detoxification and
prostaglandin production. Prostaglandin is fatty acid and hormone secreted by
one cell that alters the metabolic activities or sensitivities of adjacent
cells. Extensive research with phosphatidylcholine has revealed that it protects
the liver against damage from alcohol, pharmaceuticals, environmental
pollutants, xenobiotics and infection due to viral, bacterial and fungal
manifestations (Lieber 1994a, 1994b, 1995, 2001a, 2001b).
Anyone deficient in phosphatidylcholine will remain toxic forever. It
is lost during detoxification as it binds with toxins and is passed out of the
body. The second phase of detoxification, a push of L-Glutathione antioxidants
will re-establish your levels of this necessary antioxidant as it binds at a
molecular level with toxins to remove them from the body thereby also depleting
your levels during the detoxification process. They work together in synergy to
complete the detoxification process and replenish your levels. Together they
are known as our Lipid Exchange. They can be given separately or
together.
IV infusions of L-Ascorbic Acid, Alpha Lipoic Acid and L-Glutathione are
known as our Detox Cocktail. Oxidative damage generated by glutathione
deficiency is prevented by the intravenous administration of vitamin C.
Alpha Lipoic Acid is water and fat soluble antioxidant which allows it to enter into almost
every cell. It binds with toxins in the bloodstream and helps protect other
organs from damaging affects of sugar. Sugar is the single most destructive
force in the body. It ages you faster than anything else by increasing free
radicals, oxidative stress and eventual organ failure. The amount of oxidative
stress in your body is proportionate to your biological age which can greatly
exceed your chronological age in some instances. Vitamin C runs the immune
system and enhances the ability of other antioxidants. Together these three
ingredients in an IV infusion can help combat oxidative stress, detoxify your
body, boost your immune system and enhance your skin’s appearance.
Pill form: Many supplements chelate with toxins and help to improve
the environment in which the beneficial bacteria grow. Bacteria live in our
digestive system and are directly responsible for health, immune function and
nutrient absorption. Algae supplements help to purify the blood and repair
the liver.
Colon Cleansing: The colon is the sewer system of the body. Over the years, a poor diet
can lead to build up of undigested food, toxins, bacteria and fungus in the
colon. The colon is responsible for absorbing excess water from
digested food, if a toxic environment exists in the colon, then these toxins are
also being absorbed. This can lead to many health and skin problems not to
mention cancer. The American diet is sorely lacking many of the essential
nutrients necessary for digestive health. Making matters worse, we do not digest
and absorb the nutrients well because our digestive tract is clogged and
damaged. Cleaning the colon eases the digestive process by eliminating toxic
buildup from our diets and restoring the "good" bacteria vital to colon health.
With the use of essential fiber, our invigorating blend of herbs and probiotics,
cleansing
works to improve immunity and nutrient absorption, resulting in increased
energy, even skin tone and healthy glowing skin. If you have stubborn acne
and blackheads, this is an essential part of the treatment to reverse these
problems.
DynaMed T2000: Our medically designed machine (similar to a sauna, but
more intense) uses heat and massage to induce blood flow and sweating. This
stimulates the loss of toxins. With the use of detoxing supplements before and
after the session, the skin becomes a major pathway for the body to release
toxins.
IV Infusions: Oral supplementation cannot achieve the levels of tissue
saturation necessary for effective detoxification. For example: Glutathione
cannot be taken orally at all, it is lost in the stomach’s digestion while most
of the phospholipid is lost in digestion as well. Your body synthesizes
glutathione, but it can only be given as an IV infusion for supplementation.
Vitamin C would bring on organ distress and diarrhea if quantities are taken
orally over 2 grams. We can use 12 grams, 25 grams even up to 100 grams of
vitamin C intravenously without causing these side effects.
IV Chelation with EDTA: Chelation has a direct and powerful effect on the body
almost instantaneously. An IV session usually lasts about 3 hours, during which
about 1500 mg to 3000 mg of EDTA (plus vitamin C and other nutrients) are
administered. The number of treatments necessary (generally about 20-50
sessions) depends on the individual's condition of heavy metal or heart disease.
EDTA removes heavy metals and free radicals from the body, it is important to supplement your
diet with a good multi-mineral supplement while receiving EDTA, to avoid any
mineral deficiency, especially in zinc.
Algae Body Wraps: Algae is chelating. It is absorbed through the skin and then bind with
toxins and release them through the body via the lymphatic system.
Lymphatic System:Stimulating a sluggish system with body brushing, manual massage or a session
in the DynaMed T2000 helps to stimulate movement through the lymphatic system.
The lymphatic system removes waste material from cells and is a major player in
your immune system.
Additional supplementation with fish oil, vitamins and minerals, along with
digestive enzymes may be necessary to achieve the results. A toxic person is
malnourished and has a higher level of inflammation. The body must be brought
back into balance and replenished.
