Imagine what life would
be like if you didn't have to shave, pluck or wax.
Hair Removal
Dr. Pearsall uses the latest generation lasers known as "SmartEpil" and
"Apogee" along with "ProLite" IPL- approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) - for its effectiveness in permanent hair removal. We have multiple
lasers to remove hair for all skin types.
In what areas can hair be removed by laser? Except for the eyelashes, hair
can be removed safely from all parts of the body.
Is it painful?
An anesthetic cream is applied to render the treatment painless or very
tolerable for the majority of patients. Not all lasers need anesthetic creams.
How many treatments are necessary?
The response to treatment is excellent in 80% of the cases. Further, in 80%
of the cases, depending on the individual and the area treated, from 3 to 6
sessions are needed at four week intervals. Facial hair is often the most
resistant as it is stimulated by hormones, therefore, up to 10 sessions may be
needed for facial hair. Menu under the age of 30 usually require up to 10
session as their hair is still under a stronger hormonal influence until 30
years old when hormones start to level out.
Is it permanent?
According to current scientific data, it is impossible to guarantee permanent
hair removal with any known laser treatment. In fact, there are pluripotential
skin cells that produce hair when stimulated. For example, as a result of
hormonal changes, an increase in facial hair growth has been seen in
perimenopausal women.
In men, hair begins to appear in and on the ears around age thirty and upper
body hair increases with age. Certain areas are hormone dependent (facial hair
and beard) and some medications can cause their growth. Moreover, some people
have hormone imbalances or a heightened sensitivity to hormonal stimulation.
This is why it is important to meet with the doctor before considering this type
of hair removal. Dr. Pearsall, medical aesthetician will examine and evaluate
your skin. If a hormonal problem is discovered, she will recommend the proper
course of action for appropriate treatment during laser hair removal.
Are there alternatives?
For those who have blonde or gray hair that does not respond to laser well,
we offer Alexandria Body Sugaring
which is similar to waxing, however the sugar is a little warmer than room
temperature and will not adhere to live skin cells, so there is no risk of
burning or excoriation of the skin. Most patients say it's more gentle
than waxing.
Sugaring is helpful right after laser treatment by removing any lingering
hairs to get an instant smooth appearance that lasts.
