Perhaps no health issue is more emotionally charged than weight gain. We need only to look at the plethora of diet books to sense this concern. Unfortunately, in spite of the abundance of information on diet, nutrition and the health problems associated with being overweight, the American population has been getting progressively heavier. As a matter of fact, Houston has been dubbed the US's Fattest City by Men's Health Magazine for the second year in a row!

Shedding pounds amounts to shedding years, but fad diets are not the solution. Losing weight - and keeping it off - is no easy task. Obesity is a chronic medical problem and should be treated:
1. As any other chronic disease
2. By a Medical Doctor who specializes in Weight Loss

The most common complaint I hear from my patients is that no matter what they do the needle on their scale keeps creeping up. After the age of 50, 75% of Americans are overweight.

The fact is, with age, the human body tends to “get soft”. It loses muscle mass, it loses luster. You build up FAT. Everything SAGS. Whether you’ve always been heavy or weight fighting is a new concept for you, unless you Take Actions, the numbers on the scale are going to creep up even faster than the number of candles you put on your birthday cake.

After 35 – 40 years old weight gain seems to happen despite the attention we pay to what we eat and the time we devote to exercise. Fighting weight off becomes more and more difficult. Even if you are lucky enough to keep your weight stable, the loss of muscle mass mans you won’t look as trim as you did before.

There are plenty of books to advise you on what to eat to lose weight. Advice a lot of times is quite contradictory one to another. If even one of those diets really worked – we wouldn’t have a growing number of obese people in America and all other “diet” books would be swept off from the shelves.

Medically sound diet and exercise program are very important and can be considered a necessary start, but it is not enough. You must also address any hormonal deficiencies that underline almost all problems of excess weight. Any diet that doesn’t take hormone modulation into account won’t provide lasting results.

You don’t have to throw up your hands, accepting the gradual buildup of unwanted pounds as an inevitable part of getting older. Restoring proper balance of hormones together with scientifically based medically supervised diet will allow even those who have fought this battle unsuccessfully before to achieve, at last, a healthful stable weight – and tone up besides!
